Sign Language on Smartphones

With the advancement of technology most cell phones or smartphones in particular have the capability to video chat or video calling. Video chat is calling someone and instead of just listening to his/her voice you can also see them, it’s the same when chatting with someone on the internet while using a webcam but the only difference is that you’re using a mobile phone. Video chatting cannot only be a fun application but a very useful one at that, because engineers at the University of Washington was able to develop a great system that is very helpful to hearing challenged people using video chatting.

The way this works is that they can use the video chat to talk using their sign language like as they do in person but only through mobile phone. Video chatting has been used by hearing challenged consumers before but only on the internet and when it comes to mobile they can only send text messages that doesn’t quite get the right expression needed; and with this new system they can now use video chatting on their mobile phones.
